People often react badly to the idea of others going to Colombia. It’s normally followed up with a predictable joke about drugs or violence. But do you think it’s now a safe place to visit?
RELATED STORY: Finding trustworthy travel advice for Colombia
Great site!
Been there 5 times now and planning a 6th holiday. Felt more unsafe in New York than I ever did in Colombia. Just travel sensibly get a good book guide, read reports and talk to local people and don’t do things like wearing expensive jewellery or walking back on your own at 2am as a lot of people over there still earn very little. Colombia is an amazing country full of amazing people and wildlife. It also has a diverse range of landscape and countryside. Worth a visit if you are going around South America.

Colombia is a fantastic country and I feel safer here than in many other parts of the World. Use common sense and heed local advice and you will be fine.
By the way, I live in Colombia now. Moved from London and feel a lot safer and happier here!
